"Life before HCCS was about moving up the corporate ladder as fast as I could in the secular world. I would make every effort to acquire skills through education or by spending my free time watching how a job was accomplished. At one point, I was part owner to a franchise called 'Kid's Time.' Now, I use all that 'wisdom' to serve God's children."
1st Grade Teacher
Disha was born in India and at the age of two her parents moved to Trinidad and Tobago where they serve as missionaries. She completed her Diploma in Early Childhood in Trinidad and Tobago. She also graduated from Moody Bible Institute May 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. After that she spent two years teaching at an International School in Jakarta Indonesia where she taught English to Elementary and Middle school students. She also worked with street kids in Indonesia and has directed after-school programs in Chicago's Little India and Chinatown. While pursuing her degree at Moody she did her student teaching at Humboldt School and is blessed to be back with her Humboldt family.
A scripture passage she cherishes is Colossians 4:2-6:
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
2nd grade Teacher
Abby was born in Chicago and began teaching in 2003 at HCCS after serving as a volunteer in 2001-2003. Abby earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Child Development from Ashford University. Abby has over 20 years of experience working with children and was a Bible school teacher for nine years. Her favorite Bible passages are Psalm 91 and Matthew 18:10: "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” Abby loves the feeling of family and community we have with each other and the students at HCCS. Two of her sons began attending in PreK and have since graduated, and her 3rd son is currently enrolled.
